Rhoades to English with Matt

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What level should I be to take your classes?

Choose from two levels of classes: A2 and B1/B2. If you’re a complete beginner (A1 level) with no English knowledge, I can recommend an English-language teacher who is proficient in Portuguese and fluent in Spanish to help you get started.

How do I know which level of English I speak?

I use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for Languages (CEFR). Before you start classes, we’ll have a free one-hour class to determine your English proficiency level, which includes a written test. Please refer to the table below for more details.

What about feedback and grades?

My classes offer a boutique experience, providing students with personalized attention both in and out of class. You will receive regular feedback on your progress in one-on-one conversations plus detailed feedback on your writing assignments. You will receive assessments of your progress midway through the term and at the end of the term.

Do I need to live in Portugal?
No, all classes are online. For example, if you live in most parts of Europe, there is only a one-hour time difference.
Do I need to purchase any textbooks or online materials?
No, all the content and materials for the class are provided. We follow a customized curriculum designed for each class or individual student. Classes are on Zoom; you do not need to have a paid subscription.
When are classes held?
For group classes we meet twice per week for one hour each term. You can choose between midday and evening classes to fit your schedule. Individual classes are scheduled based on the convenience of the student.
What happens if I miss a class?

If you happen to miss a class, don’t worry! You will receive all the materials covered during that term. You can also schedule up to two make-up classes with me.

I have not been successful in taking group classes in the past. Why should I consider your group classes?

I understand! I have struggled with group classes in the past when learning Spanish and Portuguese. Before starting classes, I will collaborate with you to assess English proficiency level to ensure you join a small group of peers with similar English skills. Our classes are intentionally kept small, with only two to four students. This fosters a personalized learning environment. Moreover, unlike many other providers, I offer valuable one-on-one feedback outside of group class.

How much do your classes cost?

Group classes of 10 lessons are 180 €. Individual lessons are 250 € for 10 classes.
